Eats, Lately: September 2017

Welp. It's now October 4th, which means I'm a bit delayed in rounding up September's eats. Whoops! Thus is life, though. Things slip through the cracks. And that's okay. Realistically, so long as I am making time for my top priorities, everything else is secondary. As it should be. Like this blog. Because let's face it, sometimes all we can do is go to work, come home, eat with our loved ones, and unwind. And that is totally normal. We don't have to supersize our egos by jam-packing a million little things into our schedules.

At the end of the day, this is a creative space for me. So sometimes, I have to shuffle priorities to make sure that other things get done before this blog. Like my full-time job, freelance work, and my nutrition classes. Because when you have more than one job that fills up your plate, things will inevitably take a backseat.

That said, we can't have a ton of priorities. I'm talking ultimate priorities. Like, tip-top priorities. It's not feasible. Instead, I think it's important to pick two or three things that you truly prioritize. These are the things you do with gusto. The things you care about, deeply. For example, maybe you prioritize your health, your family, and your full-time job. Which would mean that you're getting adequate sleep, nourishing your body with satiating food, and moving intuitively. It means you're saying yes to a homemade dinner with your loved one(s) instead of spending countless hours on Youtube. It means you're focused while you're at work, not scrolling through Instagram and the news. Make sense?

Now, you might be reading this thinking, there's no way I can prioritize one thing, let alone three. And that's fine! Depending on life's circumstances, you may need to focus on just one thing. Like, your health. And that may mean putting all of your eggs into one basket. There's zero shame in that. In essence, if you truly care about your top priority, it'll show. And you'll find a cadence that works for you. If you feel like you need help re-prioritizing, I can help. Part of being an Integrative Health Coach means that I'm a support system in all areas of your life, not just in the foods you eat. That is, however, an important piece to the puzzle :)

Alright, where I'm going with this: if I wanted to prioritize this blog a bit more, I could. But something would have to give. I'm *almost* at that point in my professional life (stay tuned), but not quite yet. So, in the meantime, I hope to simply encourage you to take a look at your top priorities and honestly tell yourself if you're making time for them...or if you're all talk and no action. You can't tell yourself that you're prioritizing exercise if you hardly workout. On the flip side, you can't tell yourself that you're prioritizing the nourishment of your body if you're under-eating and over-training. You also can't tell yourself that you're prioritizing self-care if you're stressed out 24/7. Again, something's gotta give.

So, to wrap this up. While I'm just now getting this blog post done, it's no biggie. I'm not letting it affect my self-worth nor my work ethic. Because when things slip through the cracks, I try my best to give myself grace and encouragement. I make a few actionable to-dos. In this case, I'll be better about using Google Calendar and setting reminders. These blog posts aren't going to write themselves.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about a) prioritizing and/or b) any of these eats. Oh, and speaking of eats, a few things. One, if I photographed everything I ate, I'd have zero storage left on my phone. Plus, that would be rather time-consuming. Two, the first part of September was spent in Finland, and I didn't include that food in this photo dump. That post is still coming. Also, another portion of the month was spent at Expo East, and that's still another post to come. Oh, and lastly, I have photos from our wedding anniversary dinner that I'll be recapping soon. Can you tell I'm behind? Again, whoops. Much love, friends.
